FAQ
Frequently Asked
Questions
Q. Does PEP XP work on Microsoft Windows
Vista?
A. PEP XP works on all versions of Microsoft
Windows Vista except for Microsoft Windows Vista
Home versions. PEP XP does NOT work on Vista
Home Premium and Vista Home Basic.
Q. Can I just order PEP XP Field Estimator
and use it without the full version of PEP XP?
A. No, PEP XP Field Estimator is an accessory
for PEP XP. The Field Estimator is an add on
program that is loaded on to the laptop or
tablet computers of estimators that work mostly
in the field. The estimator comes back to the
office and syncs the information gathered in the
field with the PEP XP that is running in the
office. PEP XP must be running in the office in
order for the PEP XP Field Estimator to come
back and synchronize the field info.
Q. What are the minimum system requirements
for PEP XP Lite, PEP XP and PEP XP Field
Estimator?
A. The minimum system requirements are:
- 500 MHz Intel Pentium II (or equivalent)
- 256 MB of RAM
- Windows 2000
- 500 MB of disk space
- Optimized for 1024x768. Supports 800x600
with small fonts
Q. I am trying to see the online demos but
I keep getting a message that says "You are
getting this message either because you do not
have cookies enabled on your computer or because
you are trying to demo PEP without filling out
the form first". How do I enable cookies?
A. There are various internet browser brands and
versions. Here is a helpful link that shows
different steps to enable cookies on different
web browsers.
http://www.google.com/cookies.html
Q. How many times can I activate a single
version of PEP XP Lite, PEP XP, or PEP XP Field
Estimator?
A. We understand that sometimes you have to
reload your computer for maintenance and that
you might choose to upgrade to a new computer.
We will activate a single version one time per
year after the initial activation.
Q. Why do some of the larger windows get cut
off at the edges of my screen?
A. PEP is optimized for graphics cards running
at 1024x768 and higher. A screen resolution of
800x600 is the absolute minimum resolution
allowed but only while using small fonts. Large
fonts at 800x600 are not supported.
Q. Can my estimators that go out into the
field sync PEP XP Field Estimator with PEP XP
while they are still in the field?
A. PEP XP Field Estimator can only be synced to
PEP XP when the computer running PEP XP Field
Estimator has a valid network connection to PEP
XP. If an estimator goes out into the field with
a tablet or laptop computer and he or she has a
mobile internet connection, a VPN connection can
be established back to the office so that PEP XP
Field Estimator can be synced while still out in
the field.
Q. I have two estimators that work out of
their homes. Can they use PEP XP Field Estimator
and then sync the info from the job back to the
office from their house so that they do not have
to come into the office?
A. An estimator can use PEP XP Field Estimator
out in the field to estimate a job and then when
he returns to his home, he can plug his tablet
or laptop computer in to a cable modem or DSL
modem. Once the tablet or laptop computer has an
internet connection, a VPN connection can
connect the estimator back to the office to sync
the estimate back into the system running PEP XP
back in the office.
Q. Is there a money back guarantee?
A. Because the PEP program is downloaded
directly onto your computer, once it is
activated there is no way for us to erase the
program should you change your mind. For this
reason, we are unable to provide refunds, as we
would have no guarantee that our program would
not continue to be used.
Q. How do I backup my PEP files?
A. The PEP Program does not offer its own back
up procedure. At a minimum, it would be a good
procedure to frequently save a copy of the
following file on a thumb-drive, CD, DVD, or any
other common from of writable media.
C:\Program Files\PEP Associates, LLC\PEP XP\PEPDataXP.mdb
With this file, we can most likely aid you in a
full recovery.
Q. I have Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic
or Home Premium and PEP is not working. What's
wrong?
A. The Home editions of Windows Vista are too
basic to work with our program. PEP XP is
compatible with Windows Vista Business or
Windows Vista Ultimate. Once you have upgraded
to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, the
following procedure has to be followed:
1. Go into the Control Panel
2. Turn off the UAC (User Account Control) –
check the box at the bottom and uncheck the UAC
box
3. Restart your Computer
4. Reinstall or Install PEP XP
5. Go back into the Control Panel and re-enable
UAC
